Fashion for Fiji MENA Fundraiser

In May 2016, MENA held a fashion show fundraiser to provide housing relief to victims of the the Cyclone Winston flooding in Fiji. The event raised $9000 on the night and this was provided to Habitat for Humanity. The charity event included a catwalk fashion show of the latest MENA collection and guest fashion designer from Fiji Hupfeld Hoerder. Refreshements included wines by The Sisters Wine, delicious Pacific fare by The Blue Room and tasting samples of E-Life Wild Tumeric. There was also a great lineup of Pacific vocalists and entertainers. Over 200 guests were in attendance at the beautiful Auckland venue Hopetoun Alpha.

MENA Kaftans to LOVE

No longer just a beach throw-over, the kaftan has become one of our most popular dresses for these glorious summer months. We started introuducing kaftans into our MENA collections about two years ago and they've become so popular we increased the number of styles and they have now become a staple part of our seasonal collections, particularly spring/Summer. The kaftan is making a big comeback with international designers and they'll be around for a while to come. The elegant simplicity of the cut, the relaxed, looser style makes them a hit for summer weddings or cocktails. Combined with the right accessories they make a very regal, statement dress. We love that our signature MENA tropical prints can be splashed all over or in placements without seams getting in the way.

MENA & Shahana Jewels

MENA collaboration with Shahana Jewels

We were delighted to launch our latest collection at our new Grey Lynn store recently to a packed-out audience of MENA fans who were treated to an in-store fashion show, Ariki Vodka cocktails and giveaways. Our latest ‘Salamasina’ collection featuring our latest signature vibrant print dresses, kaftans and separates also included a collaboration on a matching jewellery range with local jewellery brand Shahana Jewels

We first met Shahana Jewels designer, Shehana Kimiangatau in 2016 when the jewellery designer offered some of her pieces to accessorise our MENA fashion show fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity. This time round Shehana wanted to design some pieces to specifically complement one of MENA’s signature prints in the Salamasina range. Shahana 'Salamasina' includes a ring, necklace, earrings and bracelet in a beautiful, limited edition intricate tropical palm design.

This collection is named after the Samoan Queen Salamasina (15th Century) – one of the most famous female figures in Samoan social history. It’s a fitting name as our brand has always been about strong women, respect of their Pacific heritage and service to others. Values that they’ve inherited from our mother Mena Loheni. ‘We love the intricate pieces that Shehana designed – they are very unique and sophisticated pieces that complement our new prints so well.

MENA’s new Salamasina collection is now available in-store and online and we will also be selling the exclusive Shehana 'Salamasina' jewellery as well.

Samoa Fashion Week 2016

Putting pacific fashion on the map

Last month, 12 - 17 September, our beautiful Pacific Island nation of Samoa held its first Samoa Fashion Week. This was organised by the Samoa Arts Council (S.A.C) in collaboration with the Pacific Runway Fashion Show in Sydney Australia.

Our label MENA was established in Samoa back in 2001 and although we have done NZ Fashion Week, Fiji Fashion Week and various trade fashion shows over the years we are really delighted that Samoa has now set up its on home based event to showcase our fabulous and talented local talent.

Here are some of the photos of the MENA catwalk from the night.
